E112 Monday Motivation- What Is Optimal Training? with Ryan Golec

In this podcast Matt talks to one of Reno's top trainers, Ryan Golec (@movementmechanix). Ryan is the director of Movement and Education at Performance EDU in Reno, NV. He has been in the fitness industry since 1998. He has a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology form the University of Colorado. Over the past 20+ years he has obtained several credentials including training through ISSA and ACSM. He also worked through the CHEK Institute and is a CHEK Practitioner Level 2.
Four years ago he completed the massage program through TMCC and is licensed massage therapist. Ryan focuses his efforts on assessing movement and creating programs to improve the client's movement, decrease pain and progress them towards their goal in a safe and methodical way. His favorite quote to define his career is by Albert Einstein. "The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know."

We are often posed the question, "what is optimal training?" The answer is of course....it depends!
Is you main goal to get stronger to go longer? Improve your max power or economy? Improve over all body composition or cardiovascular health? We discuss different types of goals and our views on Energy System Development and Recovery plans, how we program and define "functional training", how to prioritize the appropriate type of stress based off different individual needs.
